Blog 9 of 12

When I put on clothing with text, I do not anticipate readers. Sometimes I don't even know what my own clothing says. In fact, I have a shirt (September 25, 2011) that I love. I wore this shirt for months before someone told me they liked it because it said "simple math" under a peace sign, and math equations in the background. What? Math equations? I never saw them! Now that its been pointed out to me, of course I see it and wear the shirt because the message is smart: peace is simple and has an answer, like math. But I did not wear it for that reason originally. I wore it because it has a nice blue color to it, and because it is soft.

  1. Thank you for the intelligent post. Hey. Have you though about how you may subconsciously put on the shirt without even realizing it? Do you ever try to match the color of the text on your shirt to your jeans or shoes? I like how you didn't realize about the peace sign and someone else did. Maybe people read our shirts more than we think they do. Oh no!

  2. Thank you for this interesting post. Something that appeals to me about it is that I agree with it. I rarely ever think about what I'm wearing even if there happens to be writing on it. I think that you portrayed that it doesn't even occur to you that there may be people reading what you wear when you shared a small anecdote about one of your articles of clothing. Have you ever thought about why you bought the shirt in the first place, though? Maybe the reason some people choose to put on text is the same reason you decided to buy it in the first place. I don't know, maybe not. Just something to think about!

  3. Thank you for your post. I think you make an interesting point. Aside from the fact that your shirt sounds fascinating and amazing, the post itself is interesting. If you did not notice the message of your shirt until someone pointed it out to you - after you wore it several times - maybe others read the text we put on more than we do. Maybe the text we wear does not mean much to us when we first put in on, but the more we wear it, the more meaning it has to us.
